Shooting into the sun is not every landscape photographer’s favorite. It can create lens-flare and washed out colors. But with the right processing techniques you can not only remove the lens flare and get the colors back – you can also create the mood of a sun shining into the frame. This is possible with Max Rive’s unique light control and light painting techniques, both of which are demonstrated in depth in this course. This tutorial is one of his most advanced, and is only recommended for those who are experienced with post processing.

These Processing Instructional tutorials do NOT use the same processing techniques you see among all 99,9% of landscape photographers. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these – they work and can give incredible results. But after you’ve seen one – others will feel the same. The processing tutorials and techniques on this page from Landscape Photographer of the year Max Rive are different. Max Rive is an autodidact – just like he can find his own locations and unique compositions – he developed his own processing style with over 7300 hours of processing. Max Rive’s advice: ‘’If you are experienced with both photography and post processing, you don’t have to replace your current processing techniques but you can use my techniques to upgrade yours and to get new insights in my creative workflow’’.
Post processing plays a big part in today’s landscape photography. A good processed photo taken with a simple compact can look more impressive than a poorly processed photo taken with a high end DSLR. These instructional videos will bring your post processing skills to the next level – and will outvalue any other investment you can make to improve your photography. Words from Max Rive: ‘’If I had to choose between keeping my current camera but lose all my processing knowledge or keeping all my processing knowledge but use my first compact camera, I would always choose to keep my processing knowledge. In fact, I would not even be sure if people would notice when I change my camera when posting photos on the internet. Investing in your post processing is indeed by far the best investment you can make’’.
Max Rive: ‘’One day I received an email from someone who had bought my videos. He complemented me with the unique processing techniques he learned from it and how it has changed his workflow completely. Thankfully, I receive these compliments many times though this one is worth mentioning because at first, he was not all that enthusiastic. He expected advanced techniques and did not find them that advanced at first sight. Let me tell you why he changed completely in his opinion about my processing techniques. The more technical they get, the more they will distract you from your creativity. Compare it with an artist making a painting. The actual painting itself is nothing more than holding a brush and making strokes on a canvas. Would a painter benefit if this simple process would be made overly complicated? This is exactly how the common post processing techniques are done. They are unnecessary complicated. My techniques do not require much technical knowledge, nor are they difficult to learn and can create the most impressive processing results.’’
WHAT OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS SAY AFTER WATCHING Elements of Life

First of all I wanted to thank you for all the time you invested to create awesome learning tutorials about your unique workflow of image processing ! I started with the perfect sunstar up to your master processing program and during that time my images became so much more attention to the audience. My followers started to increase , they started to ask me about how to etc. What I most liked was to push my own limits and the potential of my fotos way beyond what I ever had expected in the past ! Thanks to your tutorials I became a better photographer in all aspects :)
I bought 3 of Max video tutorials, all are impressive and easy to follow. His attention to details and ability to imagine what he wanted to develop the raw files before he started the processing helps me understand how the post processing should be done.
Doesn’t matter whether you had the chance to meet Max Rive in person or not. Few minutes of one of his video tutorials and it will feel like you have known him for a long time. Max is friendly, deeply engaging and all his techniques are meticulously explained, step by step. Many of those are now part of my editing workflow. Few words to describe his tutorials? More addictive than Netflix.
I have purchased several of Max Rive's tutorials over the years and have learned something new from each one. Max has a unique processing style and he offers lots of insight into how he processes each image. While the technical processing sections of the videos are excellent, what I find most useful is hearing him explain why he makes each artistic and creative decision. These artistic principles can be applied to your own images to help you improve your photography. I highly recommend Max's processing videos.
There are a number of different things I like about Max's photography; balance of tones, simplicity in colors and 'oomph' are some. I tried myself for years to apply some of those concepts to my style of photography but failed. Then came the tutorial series from Max which I'm glad I bought and followed. They are well laid out, methodical and explain concepts to execution which I could not have learned myself. Simply they helped me a great deal. I recommend them for anybody who would like to add a creative touch to your photography
I watched many other photographer's courses, but when I saw the first session of my dear friend (Max Rive) I finally found what i was looking for because it has a clear and organized style. Editing pictures became easier, and my style developed into the stage of professionalism. Max has a great talent in how to communicate information easily. He was always happy in helping me with information or clarifications, that is why I have a special dear and a fondness for him, and I consider him my dear brother.
Starting out with limited knowledge of photography and editing in particular, Max's tutorials really helped me to break that learning curve and take my images to a whole new level. As someone who wants to convey that adventurous spirit through photography, nobody exemplifies that better than Max and these tutorials can help you get there. Detailed and easy to follow, not only will you learn a wide range of editing techniques, but also how to think creatively about your images to bring out mood, atmosphere, depth and most importantly, emotion.
Max’s post processing videos helped improve my landscape photography a lot! What would have taken me potentially years to learn, I was able to grasp and put into my workflow quickly. New ideas, thoughts and techniques to help me scout, capture and then post process images have been so incredibly valuable to my progression. These tutorials for me have been my best investment in progressing as a landscape photographer. I look forward to keep learning from you Max! Keep the content coming. Your fan -Chance Allred
The tutorial was very comprehensive and it clearly shows the amount of effort and dedication, Max put into his photos. Having watched other 'similar' tutorials, I found Max techniques simpler yet powerful and intricate when trying to create his very well known look. Highly recommend this for anyone who wants to either improve their techniques or just learn new ways of post processing.
I purchased some of your video tutorials and it helped me a lot to improve my post-processing. They show In-depth exlanations of your techniques with many useful tips - it all is very well done!
I bought and watched almost all of your processing videos. Even though I'm a experienced professional photographer, I learned a lot. The mastering of colors, separation and balance in your work is absolutly at the highest level. Even if you use your own techniques, the end result is always brilliant ! We share the love for mountains, beautiful landscapes in remote areas with some awsome light, and now we also share an engaged processing method, that I mostly learned from your videos...
I am a huge fan of Max’s processing style and I was really keen on getting a glimpse of his methods. It is fascinating to see Max’s entire workflow from the raw photo(s) until the final image. I really liked the "on the field" videos where you shared your vision about powerful compositions and pointed out that great photos don't necessarily depend on equipment details such as tripods, filters, etc... A bunch of Max’s postprocessing secrets inspired my workflow: color management, special contrast method, local selections and warping, they are all fantastic tools that elevated my photography. On top of that I really liked his relaxed narrative style. Great job, as always!
Buying your course expanded my way of composing, processing, exploring light and at the same time learning that with simple processing techniques you can achieve unlimited things!
Max’s passion for photography and for teaching Photoshop in particular is very infectious; you can feel the excitement in his voice as he shares his unique method of editing. His portfolio is filled with astounding images and he doesn’t hold back on how he uses photoshop as a tool in creating them. I have purchased many of his tutorials, including his Masterclass series, and gone on one of his tours to Patagonia led by the amazing Marco Grassi. I can honestly say that Max has boosted my passion and my skill in my pursuit of landscape photography excellence
I am an adventurer, but I really wanted some decent images. Before I bought your processing lessons, I just pushed the auto-tone or auto-contrast & did some small adjustments. Your processing videos helped me to get the best out of my images & do it the right way. To balance the colors, to find the right brightness & contrast, to guide the eye to the highlights even if they are more than one. Furthermore, your video's guide me to define in-field the compositional elements I wanted to include in my image in order to have the best results.
The Max Rive Tutorials are the best in the business. What I love about the Max Rive tutorials is that they aren't about a preset or how to copy-cat his style, instead they are about smart step by step workflow processes on how to get the best out of a photo so that these same skills can then be applied to your photos to bring out their best in your own style. If you are contemplating purchasing a tutorial series, this is the one I would recommend and they are worth it.
I've learned so much from Max's processing videos and have taken my editing to the next level. Although I am still on a journey of figuring out my own style, Max has helped me to understand how to best manage color, which was most important for me to learn. Also, it's amazing how you can obtain a 3D effect with some of his amazing techniques. My panorama game has gone a few levels up too. I loved scouting tips and IG tips make such a big difference too! Best spent money yet! Thank you Max for sharing your knowledge.
