HIGHLIGHTS
Itinerary
Image
Day 1

The tour will start at Venice Marco Polo airport at no later than 10 AM. You will be picked up from the airport or from your nearby accommodation. After a 2,5 hour drive, and lunch, we will start with our first shoot. It will be nothing less than the incredible St. Johann Church. This place is nice in summer, but incredible during autumn. The fall colors really make the difference here - the forest now has a nice mix of greens, orange, yellows and reds. We will shoot this church from 2 different locations and we will also shoot another church. For sunset we will continue our way to Alpe Di Siusi. This high mountain plateau is the biggest high mountain widow in the world.

Day 2

For sunrise we will head back to Alpe di Susi. It offers totally different light, conditions and compositions this time around. After another great shoot and a delicious breakfast in the hotel (included) it is time to get some well deserved rest. Max will always be available for editing tips, critique sessions and more. Personal editing sessions will be done after the tour. Max will edit 1 photo of each participant from start to finish and will make a record of it. During the afternoon we will fully benefit from the soft autumn light. There is a great spot nearby. When the sun is above the highest peaks you will often see light-rays. For sunset we will visit a spot nearby with a Church.

Day 3

For the morning shoot we will visit a beautiful mountain which is especially great for landscape photography because of the tree trunks underneath it. They make for a great foreground. On the way back we will drive past the St. Johann Church again - which means we will stop and shoot if conditions are either very different or better than the first time. After breakfast it is time to drive towards our next accommodation. After check-in it is time to prepare our sunset shoot. We will shoot the beautiful Lago Limides. The fall colors really make this area even more special. Disclaimer, there is a possibility that there is no or not much water in the lake - depending on the rainfall. In that case there are still some great compositions. After shooting Lago Limides we will shoot another secret spot nearby.

Day 4

For sunrise Passo Giau will be shot. There are no flowers compared to summer season - but instead we will see beautiful fall colored trees from a little different angle. The sunset location of this day will be nothing less than the mighty Drei Zinnen/ Tre cime. We will hike in around one hour from the parking to our sunset spot. From this spot there is an option to split the group towards a few more locations. There is also an option to shoot the night sky from here - when the milky way is perfectly lined up with Tre Cime.

Day 5

Our sunrise location is one not many landscape photographers have been to before. The location offers an incredible view on the giant mountains directly watching over us. There is a river leading up to the mountain - and there is another river in the valley which is great to shoot during the fall season. For sunset we will stay in the same area - but a different valley and mountains. We need to hike for around 30 min to reach our spot. Once there you will understand why this location is so special. A giant pointy mountain - a forest below it - and a waterfall falling down in the valley. The fall colored forest makes it even more special.

Day 6 + 7

In the morning we will shoot the Cinque torre mountain. This mountain has 5 peaks and can be shot from different angles. There are also some nice tele-zoom options at sunrise, making this spot even more interesting. For sunset it is time to visit the beautiful Passo Rolle Valley. In this valley we will find a beautiful forest, a river and some epic mountains in the background. In addition, we can also shoot the mountains from a lake nearby - offering a totally different view.

FAQ

What lenses should I bring to the Dolomites?

We recommend bringing a wide angle, normal (40-58) and tele-zoom lens to the Dolomites. The normal and tele-zoom lens are the most essential.

What will the weather be like?

During the fall/ autumn season the weather varies greatly between day and night. Expect temps in the early morning from around freezing to plus 5 Celsius / 41 Fahrenheit. During the afternoon it can be from plus 5 degrees Celsius / 41 Fahrenheit to 20 degrees Celsius / 68 Fahrenheit. The amount of rainfall is low to medium during the fall season. The rain showers are not as intense as in summer, but can last for a longer period. Cloudy days are more common in autumn compared to summer.

How long are the hikes?

Most locations don't require any hiking to reach them. There are 2 locations that require some medium hiking (for landscape photographer). Please check the pdf for a detailed description of the hiking distances and elevation differences.

Can I bring my drone?

Yes, but only outside the National Parks. There are some drone spots, but the Dolomites are still best captured with a normal camera.

Is there a required experience level?

No, we have photographers from all experience levels participating. Whether you ask how to shoot in manual mode, how to take a panorama or how to master the handheld focus stack technique – the guide will always be happy to help and adopt his teaching to each skill level.

Can my non-photographer partner join for a discount?

Unfortunately, we don’t have different prices for non-participating clients.
