Join Max Rive on an unforgettable 10-day photography adventure through the Peruvian Andes. We’ll explore remote valleys, dramatic lakes and rarely photographed locations, surrounded by towering fluted peaks unlike anywhere else on Earth.
Combining comfortable hotel stays with nights under the stars, the tour builds towards an incredible finale: setting up base camp beneath “Paradise Mountain”—home to one of the most spectacular views on the planet.

Why Photograph Peru with Max?
Peru combinessnow-capped peaks, glaciers, wildflowers and winding streams. Sunshine and passing clouds often create beautiful light, while the country remains relatively undiscovered by landscape photographers.
Max has visited Peru many times and knows its strongest locations and compositions. His trusted local contacts allow the itinerary to remain flexible and adapt to the conditions.
Max will help you find the best flower foregrounds, stream positions and mountain compositions. Madee will also be there to offer additional guidance and assistance.
This Peru Photo Tour is more than a photography workshop. It is a small-group mountain adventure that will leave you with powerful images and unforgettable memories.

We’ll meet at Lima Airport around 10:00 AM and begin our scenic journey into the Peruvian mountains. After checking in, there will be time to relax before our welcome dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2 begins with a sunrise shoot from our balcony, using telephoto lenses to capture the snow-covered Andes. We’ll then continue to our mountain lodge, which we’ll have entirely to ourselves. For sunset, we’ll photograph a nearby lake and stream beneath the towering peaks before returning for dinner in our private restaurant.

Day 3 takes us to our “secret garden”—a beautiful valley filled with wildflowers, flowing water and 6,000-metre peaks. With dozens of compositions to discover, everyone will have plenty of space to explore.
Later, we’ll visit several mountain viewpoints. Some peaks rise to almost 6,700 metres, nearly four kilometres above us. We’ll finish at a lower viewpoint for sunset and, if conditions are right, stay to photograph the night sky.
Day 4 begins with a 2.5-kilometre hike, gaining around 300 metres before reaching our sunrise location. A gentle river flows beneath a 6,300-metre peak, surrounded by flowers, trees and reflective pools.
After returning to the lodge, we’ll pack and meet our team of porters. Together, we’ll hike into a remote hidden valley that we’ll have entirely to ourselves, set up camp and photograph sunset beneath the mountains.

Day 5 begins with an incredible sunrise shoot beneath the snow-covered peaks. After breakfast, the porters will pack the tents and carry the camping equipment back down.
We’ll then travel to our next area, check into our hotel and recharge our batteries. Laptops, spare clothing and other non-essential gear can be stored securely here until we return on Day 9.

After an early 1.5-hour drive, we’ll meet our support team of donkey drivers, horses and a private chef. They’ll carry our food, luggage and camping equipment, allowing us to enjoy the hike with a lighter load.
The trek covers 12 kilometres with 750 metres of elevation gain, gradually following a river towards its glacial source. We have the full day, so we can walk comfortably and take plenty of breaks.
Our camp sits at the foot of Paradise Mountain. After arriving, we’ll photograph the surrounding peaks before enjoying dinner in our private dining tent.

These two days are dedicated to photographing Paradise Mountain and its incredible surroundings. Viewpoints are scattered throughout the valley, from easy locations near camp to higher positions around 500 metres above us.
The area offers everything from intimate foregrounds and reflections to huge panoramic views. With plenty of flexibility, we can follow the best light and weather each day.
Our private chef will prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, drinks and snacks throughout our stay. Two toilets will also be available near camp.
During the afternoons, we may see Andean condors soaring above the valley. With wingspans reaching 3.3 metres, they are spectacular to watch and photograph.

On Day 9, we’ll pack up camp and hike back to town. Our support team will carry the equipment, while pre-arranged horses will be available for anyone who requested one.
We’ll return to our hotel, collect our stored luggage and enjoy a comfortable final evening together.
On Day 10, we’ll leave early for Lima Airport, taking home unforgettable memories and a collection of photographs from one of the world’s most spectacular mountain regions.
Max is one of the most experienced photography guides in the Peruvian Andes, with extensive knowledge of its remote locations, unique compositions and rapidly changing mountain conditions. Alongside him is Madison McCardle, a talented landscape photographer and assistant who is always ready to offer guidance and help every participant get the most from each location.
A team of porters will assist us on the hike to base camp. Horses are also available on request at no extra charge. However, every participant should still be physically prepared and capable of completing the hike on foot.
We stay in a beautiful mountain lodge, carefully chosen for its comfort, peaceful location and easy access to some of Peru’s most spectacular photography spots.
During the camping section, every participant receives a spacious two-person tent for private use, so there’s no need to share.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included throughout the entire tour. During our camping days, we’ll also provide plenty of drinks and snacks to keep everyone energised on the trail. You’re welcome to bring along any personal favourites too!
During our nights at base camp, a dedicated chef and assistant will prepare fresh breakfasts, lunches and dinners in our spacious kitchen tent—so you can relax, recharge and enjoy great food surrounded by the spectacular Peruvian Andes.
We travel through Peru in a comfortable minibus or minivan with a professional driver, giving everyone plenty of room for themselves and their camera gear. From airport pickup to our journeys deep into the Andes, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery along the way.
After signing up, you’ll receive a massive bonus package: all 18 of Max’s editing tutorials, 9 Lightroom preset packs, and 3 exclusive In-the-Field tutorials. Everything is downloadable and comes with lifetime streaming access, so you can keep learning long after the tour is over.
One photograph of your choice can be edited by Max from start to finish, with the entire process screen-recorded and shared with the group. While completely optional, these edits can provide valuable ideas for processing images from each location—and give you access to additional editing videos featuring photographs and techniques from across the tour.
Travel insurance is required and must be arranged before the tour begins. We’re happy to provide advice and recommend suitable options if needed. It usually costs only a small amount compared with the overall trip, but can provide valuable protection and assistance should anything unexpected happen.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included throughout the entire tour. During our camping days, we’ll also provide drinks and snacks to keep everyone energised on the trail. You’re welcome to bring your own favourite snacks too. Please note that alcoholic drinks at restaurants are not included.
Yes. We do not require a minimum number of participants, so the tour will go ahead even if the group is smaller than expected. For small hiking tours such as Patagonia, which are limited to six participants, last-minute cancellations may simply result in an even smaller and more personal group.
A tour would only be cancelled in exceptional circumstances, such as a serious geopolitical situation that makes it impossible to operate safely. Otherwise, you can book with confidence, knowing the tour will take place on the scheduled dates.
Please check the PDF for the exact hiking distances and elevation changes for each day.
To help you acclimatise safely and comfortably, we’ll begin at a lower elevation and spend the first night at around 2,500 metres before gradually moving higher.
Drink plenty of water throughout the tour—we’ll take regular toilet breaks—and eat enough carbohydrates to give your body the energy it needs at altitude. Before travelling, consider speaking with your doctor about altitude medication. Caffeine is generally fine, while alcohol and nicotine may make acclimatisation more difficult.
Most importantly, tell the guides immediately if you feel unwell at any point.
Based on my experience over the past two years, you can bring your drone. However, regulations can change, so please check the latest local rules and recommendations before the tour begins.
Before each shoot, Max will brief the group on the location, possible compositions, hiking conditions, and the camera gear and clothing you’ll need. Once we arrive, you can explore the incredible landscapes of the Peruvian Andes independently or photograph alongside Max.
In the field, Max will share composition ideas and offer hands-on guidance with camera settings, focus stacking and creative techniques. The aim is to help you capture distinctive images while making the most of Peru’s dramatic mountains, changing weather and beautiful light.
Mountain weather is never completely predictable, but Peru offers reliable conditions for photography. June usually brings clear mornings, with clouds building through the afternoon—ideal for dramatic light at our viewpoints.
Days can be warm in the sun, while mornings and nights at higher elevations can drop close to freezing. The air is thin and dry, and rain remains possible, so please follow the kit list carefully.
Although the landscapes are wild and remote, the areas we visit within the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Huayhuash are completely safe. Max and his team are highly experienced in guiding mountain adventures, with every stage carefully planned and conditions monitored throughout the tour. You can enjoy the incredible Peruvian Andes with confidence and peace of mind.

Peru offers some of the world’s most spectacular mountain scenery, made even more beautiful by the colorful wildflowers that bloom in June.
Photographer. Explorer. Storyteller.
Max is driven by discovering new perspectives in the natural world and capturing them in his distinctive style. His powerful mountain photography has earned him international recognition and taken him to some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes.
Every location on this tour has been personally scouted by Max, with a strong focus on unique compositions and understanding how each location works in different conditions.
Just as importantly, Max genuinely loves guiding and sharing his knowledge. He’ll help you refine your compositions, read the light, adapt to changing weather, and get the most from every shoot. His goal is for you to return home not only with outstanding images, but also as a better and more experienced photographer.
