HIGHLIGHTS

Saudi Itinerary

Day 1 + 2

We will meet at Tabuk Regional Airport no later than 17:00 a clock. After greetings, we’ll head to our hotel in Duba, where you can relax after your journey. Dinner will be together, followed by preparation for an EPIC sunrise shoot. Our first location, the dunes, offers a truly special view, with impressive layers of sharp mountains contrasting with the soft curves of the sand. This creates a composition unlike anything you've seen before.

After breakfast, we’ll check out and head to Wadi Al Disah for a stunning sunset shoot. We’ll photograph a beautiful mountain, using caves, leading stone lines, and patterns in the rocks that resemble slabs of brownies. We may even find some cracked mud.

Day 3

On the morning of Day 3, we will shoot the Pinnacle Mountain, where unique
rock formations resemble spaceships from certain angles. The compositions
here are endless, with cave views, framing trees, leading stone lines, domed
rocks, and more. Max will show you his discoveries, and you’ll be able
to create your own distinct composition. The light rays at sunrise, cutting
through layers of peaks and illuminating the desert below, give this location
an otherworldly feel.

After our Pinnacle Mountain shoot we will switch our long lenses. Madison
will pose on a high rock formation to provide a sense of scale. We will also
capture camels illuminated by dramatic sunrays.

For sunset we will visit a valley with a small stream surrounded by towering
rocky cliffs, lush palm trees, vertical cliffs and layers of rocks leading into the
sunset. A short 10 minute hike through a beautiful forest of palm trees leads
to our location. This dramatic mountain can be shot from both sides offering
alternative perspectives of its epic vertical formtion. We can even stay for a
night shoot to capture the milky way.

Day 4

It’s all about the layers! At sunrise, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of
the vertical mountains, with lush green trees offering a striking contrast to
the red-toned sand. This creates a depth-filled, ethereal desert landscape.
If you’re lucky, camels will be grazing, adding an authentic touch to your
shot. The highlight of this day is the sunrise, with light beams pouring over
the dramatic cliffs. The area also offers opportunities for framing shots with
trees or leading stone lines.

Our focus for this sunset shoot will be cracked mud formations
in the foreground. The background mountains form a symmetrical
composition with the highest peak in the center. Other foreground
elements such as plants and flowers add variety.
Optional Milky Way night shoot after sunset

Day 5

On the morning of Day 5 we will revisit The King Area but explore entirely
new compositions.
Nearby, another mountain catches the first light of sunrise beautifully.

Our subject will be a striking mountain illuminated by the final light of
the day. The mountain shape is truly beautiful, and there are plenty of
foregrounds to choose from including trees, natural rock lines and even
small caves for creative framing.

Images Day 5

Day 6 + 7

From the evening of Day 6 to the morning of Day 8 we will stay in AlUla.
This region is characterized by striking rock formations similar to those
found in Cappadocia. Exploring is a lot of fun as there are countless fore-
grounds to be found in the intriguing shapes and textures of the rocks.
It can be a challenging task to find your background since there are so
many pinnacles to choose from. Fortunately Max knows the area better
than anyone and will be there to guide and assist you.
Our hotel is around a 45-minute drive away, allowing us to access a range
of shooting locations within the main area.

Images Day 6 + 7

Day 8

We will begin the day with one last epic sunrise shoot. Afterward, you can
choose to return to the hotel or head straight to the airport. If your flight is
at 3 PM or later, you can return to the hotel first, if earlier it is best to go
directly to the airport.

FAQ

How much hiking?

The (physical) difficulty level of this tour is easy. Most shooting locations are near parking areas and little no hiking is involved. At the same time, the landscapes are great for those who enjoy exploring. Being active, seeking out unique compositions is something Max encourages to enhance your creative experience.

Is Saudi Safe?

Despite its reputation Saudi Arabia is one of the safest places to visit as a tourist, regardless of gender or nationality. The country is undergoing a major transformation to become a tourist destination. You will see this reflected in their modern infrastructure, highways, infrastructure and the warm reception from locals who are eager to welcome visitors.

Are these photos A.I?

No! All photos are from real locations. Editing techniques have been used to enhance the mood and light.

Which lenses shall I bring?

Wide angle to Tele Zoom. From 14mm or wider up to 200mm to 300mm

Can I bring a drone?

While there are some great spots for drone photography, bringing a drone to Saudi Arabia can be complication due to unclear regulations. If you enter Saudi through Riyadh, your drone may be confiscated and returned upon departure. If you arrive through other cities, customs officials may ask how high you intend to fly the drone and the purpose of your drone usage. Given the risk of confiscation and the abundance of stunning camera photography opportunities, I do not recommend bringing a drone.

Any night photography?

There are plenty of options for night photography. Several locations are perfectly aligned with the Milky Way. The nights are dark with little to no light pollution ensuring crystal clear skies. The number of night shoots will depend on the groups interest, as our sunrise and sunset sessions are already packed with incredible locations.

What makes Saudi so Unique?

Saudi's landscapes are unlike anywhere else. It is not about towering mountains, but rather their unusual shapes, intricate rock textures, and natural leading lines. One of the biggest advantages is how a single mountain can offer multiple perspectives. Moving just a few minutes in any direction can completely transform your composition. This means every sunrise and sunset shoot offers multiple high-quality portfolio shots. Max will guide you to all the iconic locations seen in this itinerary, while also encouraging you to explore and discover your own unique compositions.

Your Guide

Max Rive is most driven by seeking new perspectives in the natural world and capturing them in his own distinguished style. Max's powerful portrayals of his interactions with the mountains has earned him international recognition in the outdoor community.

He has spent an abundance of time backpacking through Patagonia on a journey of discovery, questing for the greatest vantages of the greatest peaks. His Patagonia tour is a culmination of his time in these mountains.
