HIGHLIGHTS
Itinerary
Image
Day 1

We will meet in the arrival hall at Venice Airport by 11 am. After greeting each other, it's time to set course for the high, pointy mountains we'll be concentrating on: the mighty Dolomites! We' II check into our hotel after a two-hour drive, followed by lunch. Don't hesitate to enjoy a good Italian meal because we're gearing up for a long shoot! We will start with the Gardena Pass (Passo Gardena). There are incredible hidden gems in this area that I' d love to show you. This area is also perfect for exploration. Feel free to let me guide you to various shooting options, explore on your own, or enjoy something in between.

Day 2

Our sunrise shoot is only 25 minutes driving from our hotel. We will shoot a typical Dolomiti mountain with a big field of tree trunks in the foreground. Depending on the season there are also some fields of flowers in the area.

For sunset, we will visit the mighty Lago Limides. The lake requires a short hike from the parking lot, but there are already great shooting opportunities along the way with a telephoto zoom lens! The lake itself offers many different compositional options. We will spend a good amount of time shooting and exploring here. Afterward, we will shoot from another location near the car park, where fields of flowers and the setting sun behind the mountain offer more opportunities.

Day 3

This day will start with a morning shoot at Alpi di Siusi. This location has been photographed many times by numerous photographers, but once you lay your eyes on the view, you will understand why. I am excited to show you unique compositions, as well as the classic shot with the barns in the foreground.

For sunset, we will take the cable car up to Secada. While we can not stay until sunset due to the cable car schedule, we will still have time to shoot into the early evening. Afterward, we will head to St. Johann Church for a sunset shoot. We have two different locations to shoot this amazing place.

Day 4

On the fourth day, we will visit the beautiful Passo Gardena again. This place offers so many compositions and spots that it can easily be visited twice. The light hits the mountains beautifully both at sunrise and sunset, but from different angles. After sunrise, we will have breakfast, check out, and head to our next hotel. For sunset, we will shoot the world-famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen in German). We will park at the high parking lot and embark on a one-hour hike to our shooting spot. The trail is mostly flat, with only the final section involving some ascent. We will photograph from the side view, where there are many flowers and a perfect alignment with the Milky Way. We will likely stay here to capture the blue hour and possibly the beginning of the night.

Day 6

We will shoot the spectacular Rolle Pass (Passo Rolle) for sunrise. There is a big field of flowers nearby and there are also some nice compositions possible from a bit higher. Lastly, there is the more classical option, which is the river valley underneath.

For sunset, we' Il get ready for one of the most fairytale-like valleys in the Dolomites. A valley surrounded by majestic mountains - truly magical! We' Il hike for about an hour to reach the valley, but we'll take plenty of time along the way. Once we arrive, shooting opportunities will be everywhere: from forest frames to rivers, flowers, and even the Milky Way. We' II stay here until after sunset.

Day 7

On the morning of the 7th day we will go to a valley not many landscape photographers have been shooting from before - yet it offers a incredible view on a beautiful mountain range, with a river underneath to use as foreground. After our sunrise shoot it is time to head back to the hotel and have breakfast. The tour is now over - the memory cards are FILLED with many amazing photos and it is time to drop everyone off at the airport at no later than 1pm.

FAQ

Will it not be too busy in the Dolomites during summer?

Although the Dolomites have many visitors in summer - we will barely see any other people and photographers during the time we are out shooting. When we leave after our sunrise shoot to go back to our hotels the tourists will do the opposite by just leaving the hotel to go on a hike when the sun is already long up. The same goes for the sunset shoot but then the other way around. During daytime, we catch up on sleep, go for a post processing session, lunch and on the way to our sunset shoot we visit other places for a quick shoot.

What lenses should I bring to the Dolomites?

We recommend bringing a wide angle, normal (40-58) and tele-zoom lens to the Dolomites. The normal and tele-zoom lens are the most essential.

What will the weather be like?

The weather during summer in the Dolomites varies each year. Temps can be mild with 20+ degrees Celsius during the day but it is also possible that the temperatures will just reach 10 degrees. At the beginning of the tour, we’ll inform you about the expected weather so that you can be prepared with the best gear for the trip.

How long are the hikes?

The Dolomites Summer Tour is easy, with the longest hike being a 40-minute trek to Drei Zinnen. Along this hike, people will be able to stop to shoot the views around them. Depending on the total fitness level of the group, some smaller hikes from the departure point of each morning/evening are optional.

Can I bring my drone?

Yes, but only outside the National Parks. There are some drone spots, but the Dolomites are still best captured with a normal camera.

Is there a required experience level?

No, we have photographers from all experience levels participating. Whether you ask how to shoot in manual mode, how to take a panorama or how to master the handheld focus stack technique – the guide will always be happy to help and adopt his teaching to each skill level.
